About Me

Cherry Blossoms

I was born in New Brunswick and can trace both sides of my family back 8 generations to Ireland and Scotland (I sure hope to visit the UK one day!).  We moved to Fort McMurray, AB in 1980 -the beginning of the great oil boom of northern Alberta.  I loved growing up there.  We were quite isolated, the winters were COLD, but we were surrounded by the boreal forest and it is quite beautiful there.  From an aerial perspective Fort McMurray looks like it was dropped into the middle of a ginormous forest (I guess it was built that way).

In 2000 I moved to Edmonton to continue post-secondary education in Nursing at NorQuest College and then Grant MacEwan University.  I began my career as a Licensed Practical Nurse at University of Alberta Hospital in 2002.  I completed my Diploma in Nursing in 2004 at Grant MacEwan College and began my journey as a RN in the Emergency Department (ED) at Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton, AB.  In 2017 I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and Advanced Certification in Emergency Nursing.  Between 2017-2020 I was a Clinical Nurse Educator for the ED.  In April 2020 I accepted a position as Unit Manager for the Emergency Department, and now I am pursuing a Masters in Health Studies from Athabasca University as I continue to work as a Manager in the Emergency Department.  I value transparency, respect, integrity, intelligence, willingness to contribute, and eagerness to improve.  I am passionate about improving patient experience in healthcare for future generations, and hope to grow as a leader during this course.

I've been married for 16 years and have two sons ages 13 and 11 that keep us happy and very busy with their baseball, football, and basketball activities.  In my spare time I love to read, work in my yard (slowly growing my perennial collection), travel, and spend time with my family.
